CHILDREN'S MINISTRY FOR GROWING DISCIPLES AT ST EDWARD'S

In Sunday School we discover through stories, songs, role play and many other age related activities, how Jesus is present, day by day, in our lives.
When: During the 10:30am Sunday Service - twice a month
Where: In our Sunday School room - adjacent to the church
Who: From the age of 3 - two groups, Pebbles & Rocks
What: Age-related Bible stories, enactments, prayers and crafts
Depending on their reading ability, the children are organised into 2 classes and throughout the year are involved in special activities. They also have a high profile during Mass on special occasions like Mothering Sunday, Harvest Thanksgiving and on some principal feast days.
Our core syllabus is the critically acclaimed Living Stones Christian course books by Susan Sayers, which is popular with both the children and St Edward’s dedicated team of Sunday School teachers.
Your child's safety and welfare is of paramount importance, overriding all other considerations. We ensure that all our staff and volunteers are aware of, and have the skills to deal with, any child protection or safeguarding concerns. Full details of our stringent Safeguarding Policy can be found on our Safeguarding page.
KEEPING US SAFE IN SUNDAY SCHOOL
Cantonal Restrictions to prevent the spread of Covid-19 now limits attendance at St Edward's Church to a maximum of 30 worshippers.
Sadly this means we have had to put a Booking System in place.
The maximum attendance of 30 does not include children under the age of 12. However, we felt it right to suspend Sunday School lessons until this restriction is lifted. In the meantime our younger disciples are most welcome at the 10:30 Sunday Service and will be leading worship whenever there is a Family Service ☺
Hopefully we will be able to return to our regular pattern of lessons before too long. And then in compliance with Cantonal restrictions to control the spread of Covid-19:
Tables and chairs for use by the children will be wiped down with disinfectant immediately prior to each lesson – idem door handles – widow(s) will be left open
Seating at tables will be marked with a 1.5 metre distance (siblings sit together)
Teachers will wear masks and single-use plastic gloves during the lessons
A register of attendance must be kept & stored on separate sheets for each lesson
Children are asked to bring their own colouring pencils, which must not be shared
Children will take home all their own sheets of paper / craft activities
Toilet facilities available when required – after use and before the end of the service, teachers will do a single disinfectant wipe-down of the communal toilet facilities
When re-entering church, children will be monitored by the 2 teachers on duty
Children should then go directly to their family seating area
The toddlers’ area at the back of church is NOT in use at present
